Digital Reporting & Workflow Platform
Wali Rapports is a digital reporting and workflow platform designed for a Wilaya governor's office in Algeria. The goal was to replace scattered Excel and Word workflows with a structured system for creating, validating, versioning and submitting official reports.
The problem
Official reporting workflows can become difficult to manage when information is spread across Excel files, Word documents and email conversations.
The challenge was to bring report creation, validation, version history and submission into one structured workflow while still supporting the document formats and multilingual requirements expected by the environment.
What I built
The platform provides role-specific workspaces, structured reporting tools, document composition, validation workflows, version history and export capabilities.
Different actors can work from the same system while the application enforces the rules that determine who can perform each action.
What I owned
- Full-stack implementation across React/TypeScript UI and Node/Express/PostgreSQL services.
- Role-based workspaces, multi-level validation states and shared authorization concepts between frontend and backend.
- Structured report editing (tables, formulas, composition) and PDF / Word / Excel export paths with multilingual layout support.
What changed
- Reporting moved from scattered files and informal email into one explicit workflow with version history.
- Actors work in role-specific spaces while the same business rules gate who can submit, review or export.
- Official documents can leave the system in the formats and languages the environment expects.
Engineering challenges
Shared authorization rules
Different roles need different capabilities, but the rules should not exist independently in the frontend and backend.
Approach
Shared access-policy concepts keep the UI and backend aligned around the same business rules.
Multi-level validation
Reports move through different stages and can require review, acceptance or changes.
Approach
The workflow models these states explicitly instead of relying on informal email communication.
Document generation
Official documents need more than raw data export. Multilingual layout, wide tables and different output formats introduce additional constraints.
Approach
Export workflows were designed around PDF, Word and Excel requirements, with multilingual typography and landscape output considered where necessary.
Structured report editing
Some reports behave more like structured documents and spreadsheets than ordinary forms.
Approach
The system combines table-like interfaces, formulas and document composition to support the reporting workflow.
